The Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club Porch was in near original condition until recently. Years or moisture, age and use took a toll on the porch – resulting in structural faults which needed to be addressed. This project included a variety of stages from Engineering Exam and Findings, Evaluation of Scope of Work, and Preservation Plan to be executed over the course of several years.
Phase 1 of renovating the porch took place over the winter 2014-2015 with a massive ground up restoration and rehabilitation effort. Once the compromised porch elements were removed – concrete supports, struts and crossbeams were put in place to support the new sub-flooring. Shortly thereafter restored flooring was laid and painted to match original materials. Columns which hold up the upper porch were inspected for structural integrity. Those found in poor condition were replaced, others were repaired – supports within the columns were tied to the new support structure. Ceiling joists were attached and a new railing was installed. Finally updated electrical was installed.
The end result of this massive project is barely recognized as a full restoration was performed taking note to replace like-materials with those which could not be salvaged.
The porch project was funded through a concerted Fundraising Program during the summer of 2015. The Foundation raised and Contributed $103,182.15 to this phase of the project.
